  1. I wrote my bachelors thesis in Political Science / International Relations on "The role of state intervention in attracting Foreign Direct Investment and Multinational Corporations : A single case study of Singapore – 1960-2019. I highly recommend all developing countries to emulate the Singaporean development model coz its cheap and practical but requires transparency, good governance, corruptionbfree civil service and political will.

  2. I am speechless of admiration for LKY. At that age, he could be retired saying "I am not charge, now its your turn…" No, he makes his voice heard. He truly care for his people! He is a lion!

  3. "True prosperity is shared prosperity…. because only then is it sustainable." – Lydia Lim article from the Straits Times This is not socialism or communism in disguise. People have to think long term when it comes to economics. We have to look at the social, political, environmental, moral, spiritual implications of our collective day to day interactions with our fellow citizens. <- what is so wrong about that? we can still have healthy competition, strong capitalism and still be humane.

  4. China learnt from the Singapore model and had the fastest growing economy in history for 4 decades. Developing countries in the world would do well from learning from the Singaporean development model.

  5. Some of the pictures are a bit outdated, as the documentary was shot almost ten years ago. But it gives a very good explanation of the path Singapore chose to develop itself.

  6. This documentary does a great job in drawing the main distinctions between the western and eastern minds. The west really has pretty much become that rapper from the '90s who's run out of stories and creativity and now just cruising somewhere trying best to enjoy that old beat-up Mercedes. The east, however, is creating, innovating, pushing, working, and showing the world and itself how a harmony of individualism (capitalism) and community (socialism) can build lasting and meaningful change. Witness the world shift to Asia, my friends.

  7. Seems like the liberal troll brigade is already out in full force. Where is the individuality, happiness, etc. they ask? Well, guess what, the numbers speak for themselves. One of the highest GDP per capita, one of the lowest crime rates in the world, highly educated population, etc. Oh, I know, but you can't spit gum on the floor. Those Singaporeans are such [email protected], I tell you. Furthermore, this guys make decisions with an idea of what's good for everyone, the community, rather than me, and only me. How dare they!!! Sure, the downside is lower level of personal liberty but its more than offset by the positives that I have mentioned above. Again, this model is definitely not for everyone but why spit on the whole concept? Im pretty sure there are billions of people in the world, from countries were either richer or at the level of Singapore back in 60s, that would now gladly jump on the chance of becoming a citizen of Singapore now. Some people just can't accept that Western liberal values are no longer the standard, rather one of the competing models.

  8. Nice propaganda piece for a de facto dictatorship police state with rampant inequality, millions living in poverty. The dictator himself does not even try to hide this. "We provide…" is not we as in the people represented, but "We, your leaders". And the riches that were made gave other countries the short end of the stick anyway.

  9. Economic growth will always be a human quest but beyond that there is the creativity , individualism

and the pursue of personal happiness things which I'm not sure are best served by the Singaporean model.
